Author Deepak Chopra suggested that we mingle with those seeking truth, but that we avoid the ones who think they have found truth.
Deep with us lie the answers to anything we want to know, but sadly, within us is usually the last place most of us look for the answers to life’s problems. We turn to those who are supposedly wiser than we are, we look for truth in religion after religion, or we wander around lost and wondering what the answers are to the questions life poses for us.
Where do you find truth?
An old story is told about creation that says God was trying to decide where to put truth. The angels gave it much thought and suggested truth be put on top of the highest mountain where no one would think to look for it.
“No,” said the devas, “put it at the bottom of the world’s oceans. Mankind will never find it there.”
According to the tale, God, with infinite wisdom, decided to locate truth within each person, as that is the last place humans would think to look for it. And so, true to this little story, most of us seek answers everywhere but with our Inner Guide, the part of us that is connected to the Divine.
How do we learn what our truth is?
Meditation, contemplation, and sitting in silence are ways to begin the process of listening for guidance from our Inner Guide. However, most of us are too caught up in our day-to-day activities of making a living, buying things, seeking fun, and dealing with problems to take the time to go within for answers.
We also have a difficult time quieting the committee that lives within most of our heads and produces constant head chatter. One wonderful way to get the committee members to stay quiet long enough for us to connect with our Inner guide begins with visualization.
Here is how you do it.
- Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed, sit down and close your eyes.
- Visualize a large room.
- See each of your committee members entering the room and sitting around a large conference table.
- Choose one of them to lead the meeting.
- Then walk out of the room and close the door, knowing you can come back at any time.
If their noise still interferes with your thinking, you may have to sound proof the door. You may even have to padlock the door to keep them in the room while you connect with your Inner Guide.
Take a few deep breaths and enjoy the silence within your mind. Ask your Inner Guide to be with you. When you feel the presence of your Inner Guide, ask whatever question is on your heart to ask. Then sit, breathing deeply, and wait for the answer, knowing it will come to you.
You may have to go through the entire process more than one time. Some people can visualize easily, and others need a bit of practice. Just keep believing it will work, and guess what! It will.
You may have heard the phrase that says we were born alone and we will die alone. This is not true. We each have angels, devas and other helpers as well as our Inner Guide who are with us every moment. When we relax and open ourselves up to the inner guidance that is there for us at all times, we can begin to discover what our truth really is.
